75 years ago, St Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) stepped out of Loreto School in 1948 and began her work at the Motijheel slum. THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED. The Missionaries of Charity now work for ‘the poorest of the poor’ in 138 countries. 23 April was a joyous day. The Mamata Banerjee government has regularized paperwork for this historic and sentimental plot of land. Sister Mary Joseph, current worldwide head of the Missionaries of Charity, who herself lived and worked in this Motijheel facility from 2016-20, led the celebrations.
